Guarantees

  1. Westwind Kennel raises puppies for the purpose of providing companion dogs to the general public. While it is our intent to produce dogs of the best conformation possible, our first concern is to breed dogs of a friendly disposition. Though many of our dogs have proven to be outstanding individuals, it is not our purpose to raise dogs for show or breeding purposes. Consequently, all pups will receive a limited registration (making its possible progeny ineligible for AKC registration), unless the client specifically indicates that the pup is desired for show or breeding purposes. In such case, we will only sell a pup that we feel has the potential of being a show or breeding class dog.

  2. We guarantee that to our best knowledge, this pup is healthy and free from congenital defects. If a defect that threatens the health of the dog, or makes it unfit as a pet is discovered before the pup attains one year of age, the following applies:

      A. Notify us, within two business days, of the diagnosis by a veterinarian of a health problem and provide us with the name and telephone number of the veterinarian and a copy of the veterinarian's report on the animal indicating, that the puppy or that the condition existed prior to the purchase of the puppy.

      B. The condition must not be due to changes in environment, mistreatment or neglect, exposure to disease or parasites, or change in feeding.

      C. We reserve the right to have our veterinarian examine the dog if we feel it is warranted.

If the rare event of a serious health problem occurs, the following courses will be available to the client:

      A. The puppy may be exchanged for another puppy.

      B. The puppy will be returned (or put down) and the client will receive a full refund. Or we may exercise the option of refunding without requiring return or destruction of the pup. (In the case of problems requiring long term treatment).

      C. The problem is less serious but may cause a shortened or less desirable life, but the client wishes to keep the pup. We will refund an amount of up to one half of the price paid.

  3. Under no circumstances will a refund be made on a pup because the pup's learning progress or temperament does not meet the client's expectations. These factors are directly affected by treatment and training procedures, and we cannot be responsible for client errors in this area.

  4. On rare occasions a client should not have purchased a particular pup, if the time involved is very short, and we feel no harm has come to the pup, we will take it back for a partial refund. (Usually 75% of the selling price, or the selling price less $100.) We will not accept the later return of pups where the problem with ownership is not due to the health of the pup.

  5. To validate this agreement, your pup should be checked by your veterinarian within one week of purchase or at the time that its next vaccination is due, but not later than two weeks after purchase. Bearing in mind that we are not responsible for veterinary expenses that you might incur, inform us of a serious health problem before undertaking expensive procedures. In the unlikely event of a serious health problem with a pup, immediate replacement or refund is the best remedy. For that reason you should take your pup to a vet for examination before you become attached to it. In certain instances it is our practice to reimburse clients for a portion of a prescription or procedure arising from this examination. They are as follows:

      A. Medications required to correct an existing infection or parasite infestation that is not of serious nature.

      B. The difference in cost between removal of normal and undescended testicles during neutering. ($20 max at time of neutering)

Our puppies are raised on Purina Puppy Chow. It is preferable that you continue this ration, especially with Westies.

Note on allergies: An allergy may be caused by diet, environmental substances (natural or chemical) or heredity. Consult your veterinarian if one occurs. Since a diet that does not contain any of the elements of the dog's normal diet may be required in determining a food allergy, feeding of diets such as lamb and rice are best reserved for this possibility.

Note on bone development problems: Over feeding certain dogs may cause bone problems during growth. Always follow feeding recommendations as supplies with the dog food.
